You may know me as a family photographer in Surrey but did you also know about my charity project Kids and their Bikes?
Kids and their Bikes is a portrait photography project which raises funds for The Farnham Charity Bike Ride. Families can nominate their child to have their portrait taken with their bike in exchange for a donation to the bike ride charity. So far I have photographed kids varying in age from 1 yr old – 16 years old with: scooters, old bikes, new bikes, trikes, BMX bikes and specialist road bikes too. We raised near £1000 in the projects first year. You can read more about the project on my page here. You can also read about the Farnham Charity Bike Ride here.
It’s been a while since I have caught up on blogging the many wonderful kids (and their bikes), who have participated in the project so far.
Here is Rosie and Charlie, two wonderfully energetic siblings and confident bike riders, photographed in the beautiful Surrey hills. It was fun photographing these two on the move and the wintery shades of the Heather made for a great backdrop for some still portraits too.
Seeing my own two boys begin to ride scooters and bikes really captured my imagination as a photographer. I am also really passionate about seeing kids portrayed at their most confident and for families to have professional photographs of their children out on display in their home.
Portraits on display at home have an important role to play in helping form a child’s identity and self worth. A school photo will represent one aspect of a child’s identity, as do holiday family snap shots. And what about a professional portrait of a child doing something that is simply what they choose and love the most? For some kids that’s a bike portrait and I am the ‘Kids and their Bikes’ photographer!
I asked Charlie and Rosie what they liked most about their session. Charlie said he laughed so hard he nearly fell off his bike! Rosie thought she had the most fun racing Charlie. Sibling rivalry always makes for some fun portrait moments : )
