{ Safety Training Day – Newborn Photography }
As a newborn photographer in Harrow, North West London and Hertfordshire, I really enjoy learning and developing my skills for the families I serve in these areas and beyond. There is always something new to learn as a photographer and especially as a newborn photographer.
Last week I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the most beautiful little baby boy on a newborn safety posing course, and here is the result!
I had always wanted to start offering more newborn sessions to clients but had held off until going on a professional course where I learnt about all the safety aspects of handling a newborn and posing them safely (and happily) during a session. It’s always such an honor, when a family come to me, asking if I would photograph their newborn baby.
I had done one or two sessions very early on in my journey as a family photographer and it helped that I had a personal experience, as a mother, nurturing two beautiful little babies of my own.
However, I knew that being a responsible and caring newborn photographer meant working with parents and considering every aspect of safety when handling such precious new life; whilst working from behind a camera. .jpg)
On the course we covered a range of different poses and discussed the many different styles of newborn photography that are on offer in the UK today.
So when it comes to how you choose to have your newborn photographed I would encourage you to dig out heirloom blankets, special hats or booties etc.
Since attending this newborn safety training 9 years ago my style has changed and developed to incorporate a more natural style of newborn baby photography and I include more of your family home in the images.

As a natural light, lifestyle photographer I am always keen to produce images that reflect the clients own home or local environment; as well as their own belongings.
But don’t panic if everything ends up in the laundry bin on the day of your booked session (as it did with my two boys sessions!) We can still make the session very personal to you and your family in lots of other ways too.
Traditionally, Newborn sessions are recommended within the first 10 days from birth. However, one of the reasons I adopted this more natural style was to help parents who come to the idea of a baby shoot much later after their newborn baby is bron. My shoots of a great flexibility considering all aged and stages of babies within their first year. And, there is a possibility of posing babies up to 20 weeks old in some cases, due to my near 10 years experience now as a newborn photographer.
