{What to expect from Sarah Angel – your newborn photographer}
So you are thinking about booking a newborn session with Sarah Angel Photography? I am sure you have spent a great deal of time searching on the internet looking for your ideal baby photographer. You may have found there are a number of us to choose from so I am very pleased you are considering me. Choosing me to photograph your beautiful newborn baby is a responsibility I take very seriously. There are some very practical aspects of my service that I feel you should know about. Then, there are certain values and standards that I feel are extremely important to adhere to. That’s why I thought I would take some time out this week to write this informative post, letting you know, just what in particular you can expect from me as your baby photographer.
My service is about making things easy for you. I remember those early weeks of motherhood as a roller coaster ride of emotions. Absolute love (like you have never felt before) can quickly turn into anxiety and worrying over whether you are ‘doing it right’. Little things that you used to do, like going out to a local shop, now take a lot more time and consideration. For these reasons and many others, you get to relax, because I travel to you. I bring all my gear and my props to you. All you need to provide me with is a few square meters of clear natural light space, heating and the occasional cup of coffee! A newborn session usually takes up to 4 hours and for a lot of this time, between feeds and changes, I will be gently settling and posing your baby. Many parents relish in the opportunity to park themselves in a comfy chair behind me and relax. I also offer a good ear and I will always welcome a good natter, hearing about your journey into parenthood, with all its trials and celebrations.
So why might you feel that it’s ok to relax? Exactly who are you handing your baby over to, to pose and to photograph?
I have been working as a photographer in various contexts for the majority of my career. Therefore you are choosing an experienced photographer. Initially I trained as an artist (I have a fine art qualification); then as a teacher (I have educated hundred and perhaps even thousands of young people in the Art and Science of Photography; as well as fine art); and; now as a baby and family photographer. As well as my photography business I also continue to work part-time in a prestigious Art department in an amazing secondary school. I am recently CRB checked.
It is of the highest imperative that, when choosing a newborn photographer you not only consider their level of experience but find out whether or not they have had any type of training to ensure they are aware of all the safety aspects of newborn photography. Safety is of the highest importance to me as your newborn photographer. There are various highly esteemed organisations in the UK that photographers can submit their work to in order to become members but on the whole the industry of newborn photographers is an unregulated industry. Even after having had two children of my own, in the last 4 years, no matter how confident I feel handling my own and other parents newborns I still feel it is very important to regularly invest in highly regarded safety-training and I keep up to date with the latest in newborn posing practices through a network of newborn photographers from across the country. I consider this part of my ‘duty of care’ as a newborn photographer. I am also fully insured.
Last but not least, I care very much about quality. Many of the parents I meet work very hard, they usually have a mortgage to pay or they are saving for their first property and they think very carefully about where they invest their hard earned money. They also see the value of investing in high quality photography. With a fine art background I am sympathetic to high quality finished images that will stand the test of time on your walls or in your coffee table albums. I also source sustainable products wherever possible. I also aim for timeless and natural newborn images that you will still enjoy looking at in years to come.
So if you’re considering booking a session with me I hope that this post has helped you feel a little more relaxed about approaching me or at the very least I have helped you to make the decision that is right for your new family’s first venture into children’s portraiture. Please contact me via email on my contacts page or call me for a chat. Expect to be reassured and looked after!
